Last Evening in Dublin

We say goodbye tomorrow morning at Heathrow.  It has been a wonderful eleven days in England and Ireland.  We saw so much and Lincoln was such a great little trooper.  He got to see castles and dinosaurs and ride trains (quite a few trains, in fact!).  Jana got to see where her Dad teaches each summer in Cambridge, enjoy English and Irish pub foods, shop for English and Irish goods, and see history unfold in the beautiful cities of London and Dublin and numerous country towns, villages and land- and seascapes.

On our last night here in Dublin, we walked to a Temple Bar pub called "Quays" - an elaborate pub that had a bar downstairs with a wonderful musician singing Irish and modern ballads, and the large, busy restaurant upstairs, serving families and foreign visitors with delicious Irish cuisine.

Mark and Jana ordered Cottage Pie - a huge family favorite on this trip.  I ordered bangers and mash.  Lincoln had his chicken nuggets and chips and tons of ketchup.  Everything was delicious.  We have vowed to learn to make our favorite foods: cottage pie, bangers and mash, and a few interesting shortbread/chocolate/caramel bars.  But, foods like fish and chips and elaborate desserts like the huge meringue cakes, we'll leave to the restaurant experts.

After dinner, we walked back through our section of Temple Bar, crossing over one of the bridges of the River Liffey.  Finally, the rains had dissipated and the evening sky looked picturesque, rather than threatening with rain.

It was a great vacation for all of us! We hope Jana and Lincoln (along with John) will enjoy more traveling vacations in their futures.

XOXO Poppa and Mamita
