Hot Vienna Nights!

We flew into Vienna on Thursday the 6th and checked into the AM St. Stephansplaz Hotel directly across from the St. Stephans Cathedral in Old Vienna.  The temperatures for the last week or so in Vienna ranged in the high 90’s, and Thursday was no different.  Viennese residences and stores aren’t used to such longstanding high temperatures so there isn’t a lot of A/C.  In fact, this has been the hottest temps that Vienna has seen in 200 years!  Fromlooking at the weather Wapps, it looks like we’re in for another two weeks of this heat wave.  While Davis also has these high temps during the summer, usually there’s a reliable delta breeze to bring the evening temperatures down to a cooling 60’s.  Here in Vienna, it may cool down to 75 overnight by midnight or later.

In August, a lot of Viennese leave the area for Holiday.  So, when our hotel room’s A/C was on the fritz, we learned the electrician was out of town for the next two weeks on his Holiday.  The hotel manager moved us up to one of their top floor suites which had beautiful views from the long balcony.  Here are a few photos of the view:

Tomorrow, we greet the students.
